Surveillance.

All the kerfuffle and clutching of pearls about the Chinese spy balloon, let us not forget the plethora of domestic spying programs that have gone on here in the United States over the years.

Project Shamrock was a secret government surveillance program that ran from 1945 to 1975 and was aimed at intercepting and decoding private telegrams sent by foreign governments, businesses, and individuals in the United States. It was one of the US government's earliest and most extensive efforts to monitor the communication of its citizens and others within its borders.

The program was run by the Army's Signal Intelligence Service and later by the National Security Agency (NSA) and was authorized by the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act of 1978. Project Shamrock collected telegrams from major international telegraph companies, including Western Union, RCA Global, and ITT World Communications, and processed the information through a series of filters to identify potentially helpful intelligence.

The exact details of Project Shamrock remain classified, and its full scope and methods are not publicly known. However, it is believed that the program was extensive and potentially intercepted millions of telegrams per month.
The revelation of Project Shamrock's existence in the 1970s sparked public outrage and led to calls for greater government accountability and oversight of intelligence activities. In response, Congress passed the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA), establishing a secret court to approve intelligence-gathering activities related to foreign powers and agents.

In conclusion, Project Shamrock was a significant chapter in the history of US government surveillance, and its legacy continues to shape debates about the balance between national security and individual privacy. Its lessons about the potential for abuse and the importance of transparency and accountability in government surveillance are still relevant today.

Customer Service FAIL 2

Example Two of Customer Service #FAIL -

Hey, Microsoft! Should it take six times to log into my own account? Yes, I had the proper login name and password in all instances. This was day two, and the day before, they kicked me out, saying there were too many attempts to log in.

Welcome to the small corner of my first-world problems.

Customer Service FAIL

This text message arrived a day or so ago. This is the second or third marketing message I’ve received over the past month. Yes, I qualify on the age bracket, so we’re good there. I already have two lines with 5g smartphones and have had them for nearly two years. I want to talk with Tmobile and wonder why they think I need another phone line.

Fall COVID booster vaccines to start next week
CDC committee OKs updated Moderna and Pfizer vaccines

Given the public announcements of many prominent politicians contracting  COVID after a complete series of initial shots and two boosters, do we now need additional boosters?  I thought fall boosters were for the flu, which may or may not be present given the past two years of pandemic hoo-ha.  Given that from all outward appearances, the two initial shots and two boosters have done little to protect those publicly viewed as receiving the shots or shouted from the rooftops that they were now fully protected.  Given what news stories we’ve seen, the confidence in what we were told as the be-all and end-all for pandemic protection is entirely lacking.

Will there now be a public push for these new fall boosters and public service announcements on radio and television by local, state, national, and international celebrities?  Along with sappy, syrupy music accompanying their heart-tugging admonition, pleas, and urgent requests, to get the Fall booster, to protect your neighbors and those you love?

Any predictions as to who will be the first celebrity hawking the Fall Booster?
